Safeguarding and Child Protection
Our Safeguarding Ethos
At St Barnabas, safeguarding is woven through everything we do. It is not only about policies and procedures but also about ensuring that every child feels safe, loved, and able to flourish. Our Christian values underpin our approach: we nurture the whole child, encourage every individual to reach their potential, and ensure that integrity guides our decisions in keeping children safe.
Our Approach
-
We follow Wiltshire Safeguarding procedures and statutory DfE guidance.
-
We have clear policies, including our Child Protection Policy.
-
We provide early help where needed to support families at the earliest stage.
-
We work in partnership with other agencies if there are concerns about a child’s safety.

🔗 Useful Local Links
At St Barnabas, keeping children safe is our top priority. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, and we expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment.
Children know that they are valued, listened to, and cared for in our school community.
ENCOMPASS
We are part of the ENCOMPASS initiative, which informs schools by the next school day if a child has been affected by a domestic abuse incident.
This allows us to provide timely support for the child and their family.

Online Safety
Children today spend a significant amount of their lives online. At St Barnabas, we teach pupils how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
-
Online safety is taught across the curriculum and reinforced through assemblies and special events.
-
We provide parents with up-to-date guidance and resources to help keep children safe at home.
-
Our filtering and monitoring systems help safeguard pupils while they are using school devices and networks.

Prevent Duty
We actively support the Government’s Prevent Strategy, which helps protect children and young people from radicalisation, extremism and associated risks.
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
FGM is a form of child abuse and is illegal in the UK. All staff are trained to recognise signs of FGM.
-
Teachers must report any known cases involving a girl under 18 directly to the police.
-
Concerns are always treated as safeguarding matters.
Early Help
We believe in acting early. Our Early Help Offer makes sure that children and families receive the right support at the right time.
