Silbury Class

Welcome to Silbury Class

Hello and a warm welcome to St Barnabas School, our school community and Silbury!

Silbury is a mixed Year 1 and 2 class taught by Miss West and Mrs Walker.  On behalf of the Staff, Governors, children and parents, it gives us great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community.

Learning in Year One and Year Two

At St Barnabas we have developed our own unique curriculum with a set of learning goals that we want all children to achieve in order to give them the best start to their school life.  Our ambitious curriculum is written with children at the centre, and where they are encouraged to explore and develop effective learning skills for life as well as the knowledge to form the foundations for all future learning.

Year 1 children in the class benefit from a mixture of child-led and play based learning alongside direct teaching which enables them to develop their knowledge and skills in line with the KS1 curriculum. Year 2 children benefit from child-led learning and direct teaching which enables them to build on their knowledge and skills from previous year groups and gain new understanding.

Reading & Home Learning

Children should be reading five times a week at home to support their reading progression. This will also boost their self-esteem and love of reading. Please ensure that their reading is logged onto the Boom Reader app.

Communication & permissions

Dojo Please make sure you are signed up to Dojo. If you are not yet signed up, please contact the school office. We use Dojo as a communication tool and digital portfolio that allows you to have a personalised window into your child’s time at school. The class teacher and your child can document any learning so that it can be shared, supported and celebrated. Any urgent messages you wish to tell the Class Teacher should be phoned in to the school office to be past on promptly. Please note that Class Dojo will not be monitored outside of school working hours.
Boomreader  Please ensure that you are signed into the Boomreader app and record the five reads a week that your child completes at home.
Permissions Please ensure you have informed the Admin team if you do not wish your child to appear in photographs on our website or one our school social media pages.
